The upper lake area around Torbole, Malcesine and Limone is renowned for its excellent sailing conditions. This trio of towns creates a triangle on the lake which is considered by many as one of the world's best places to windsurf. The mountains around the upper lake traps the warm air causing very brisk and predictable winds. In fact the locals call the winds "Ora" (hour) because they are so reliable. They tend to gust up around the same time every morning ensuring windsurfers can indulge in their favourite sport without having to worry about calm conditions.

With such an expanse of water there's no limit to the list of water based pursuits to keep one occupied. The area is a mecca for recreational divers and the lake's colorful past ensures there's always a variety of wrecks to explore. Lake Garda is also popular with the sailing fraternity. Yachts weaving their way across the lake are always a sight to behold with the stunning mountain scenery in the background. Boats of all sizes capitalize on the breezy conditions and some of the lake's yacht clubs have, in the past, nurtured many Olympic skippers.

If land based pursuits are more your idea of fun then the list goes on and on. You can choose to spend your time relaxing on one of Lake Garda's exceptional golf courses. Or how about mountainbiking. With miles of paved roads, dirt tracks and trails that lead you up and down the mountains the whole region is a prime location for two wheeled adventures.

If you prefer your feet firmly on the ground then the lush landscapes around the lake are ideal for exploring on foot. If you're feeling more adventurous then you might like to climb to one of the summits or simply take in the sights and sounds along one of the lake's many promenades. For equestrian fans there are plenty of horse riding centers around the lake. Many of these centers not only offer day trips on horseback but also longer tours with overnight stops in farmhouses and mountain cabins.
